Changes to waste collection arrangements
Date Published : 03 September 2010
Changes which will improve the efficiency of Walsall Council's waste collection service are set to come into force from Monday 4 October.
Notices will be placed on residents' bins from next week (week beginning Monday 6 September) advising of the changes as collection days in some areas will alter.
Calendars will also be delivered to residents, before the changes are introduced, outlining exactly when the grey, brown and green bins are being emptied. Household rubbish will continue to be collected every week with garden waste and recycling every fortnight.
The new zoned arrangement system will see the borough split into five areas. It means all the refuse crews will concentrate on one smaller area each day rather than being spread across the borough.
This will enable the fleet to operate more efficiently and reduce the council's carbon footprint by minimising fuel usage.
Areas include:-
*Brownhills, Shelfield, Rushall and Pelsall
*Walsall Wood, Aldridge, Streetly, Pheasey and Park Hall
*Fulbrook, Caldmore, Birchills, Chuckery, The Butts and part of Leamore
*Bloxwich, part of Leamore and parts of Willenhall
*Bentley, Darlaston and parts of Willenhall
Councillor Anthony Harris, Walsall Council cabinet member for leisure, culture and environment, said: "We are constantly looking at ways of improving the waste collection service for residents and this new arrangement also makes perfect sense from the council's point of view.
"Some residents will have new collection dates but we are giving plenty of advance warning to ensure the service operates effectively for everyone when the new arrangement starts next month. Your patience and support will be greatly appreciated."
