Road safety
The Road Safety and Sustainable Travel Team comprises three main functions:
Traffic Engineering, Road Safety and School Travel Planning.
Traffic Engineering
The Engineering team manages all requests for transport schemes including traffic calming, junction improvements, route improvements and pedestrian facilities. Managing the minor works capital programme they undertake the implementation of Local Safety Schemes, Safe Routes to School, and Walking and Cycling initiatives. They are also responsible for accident assessment and analysis.

Road Safety
The Road Safety function deals with the Education, Training and Publicity. They work closely with Schools and Colleges in the delivery of a number of initiatives including Bikeability, Pedestrian Training, Pre-driver training. They also address local and national road safety issues in particular, Driver Improvement programmes while providing support in the delivery of engineering schemes targeting key areas for training.

Sustainable Travel
The main focus of this team is to deliver and review School Travel Plans in line with the national and local targets.Working closely with the Traffic Engineering team they support the development of Safe Routes to School and other Walking & Cycling initiatives such as schooltravelwise www.schooltravelwise.org.uk
