A34 - Leamore Lane roundabout

Where?

At the same time as the red route signing and lining works, significant construction took place at the roundabout which forms the junction of A34 and Leamore Lane.

When?

These works began in March 2010 and have been finished.

How was the junction improved and why?

The works at the roundabout and their anticipated benefits should include the following:

the circulatory carriageway and central core has been widened, to made the junction easier to negotiate, especially for larger vehicles,
the roundabout approaches (most notably the southern approach) has been realigned to help improve capacity and safety,
the pelican crossing has been upgraded to a puffin crossing and relocated further south, to shift potential delay to a slightly greater distance from the roundabout, and
larger pedestrian reservations have been created around the roundabout to improve safety for pedestrians who choose to cross close to the roundabout.

In short the project should result in improved safety at the roundabout for all road users and reduced queues approaching the junction, particularly along A34 (south of the roundabout) and Leamore Lane (east of the roundabout).
